Gay Marriage and Wearing the Burqa

I keep asking the same question: How will “gay” marriage: A. ruin all the “non-gay” marriages; B. pose a danger to our children who will be taught in school that it is OK to be gay; C. destroy the very foundations of our way of life? These and other claims have been used for years to make the case against gay marriage seem important to the vast number of people in this country that just don’t see the problem.
I didn’t run out and get a divorce or start beating my wife when 5 states passed gay marriage laws. But, you say, I am prejudiced because my family includes generations of gay (and lesbian) members. Baloney. I could still be a homophobe. But I’m not because I never bought into the bible-thumping pastors that rail against the “ungodly” queers among us; these same-sex perverts that stalk and pounce on witless children. What a load of garbage. It is clear that gayness is a birthright not a choice, and that other than sexual identify gays have the same percentage of issues that normals have. Sure there are pedophile gay men. But there are 10 or more times more straight men that are pedophiles. Do you think that the arrests you hear about every day for “kiddy porn” are gay men? Not no, but HELL NO. Most convicted pedophiles are heterosexuals. So get real.
The angst over the marriage of gays is a bible-based issue that has no merit what so ever. And besides, why should State and Federal laws uphold biblical nonsense. How would you Christians like it if Moslems asked (and got) that the States and Feds passed a law requiring ALL women to wear a headscarf or the burqa (1)? Not very much I would guess. So why should we all be expected to live by the bible? This isn’t after all a theocracy. Why should non-Christians care at all what it says in the bible? And why should Christians feel the need to get their religious ideas made into laws that we all have to follow? Remember Separation of Church and State? The founding fathers, those same DEISTS (not Christians) that specifically forbid state sponsored religion. Because it is DANGEROUS. Read about the Spanish Inquisition some time. That was a state sponsored religion. Or the beheading of women in Saudi Arabia. Another theocracy. They are scary people. So get real.
No, the reasons seem clear: Blatant homophobia and scape goating. And with other signs in the air a feeling that the Nation is slowly moving towards fascism. Now I am going to get biblical on you: God help us all.

"THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for me and by that time no one was left to speak up." (2)

FYI: Heard on NPR last night that in an 8-2 vote, the Mexico Supreme Court rebuffed the federal govt's attempt to invalidate laws passed by the Mexico City govt that allow (1) gay marriage, (2) first trimester abortions, and (3) euthanasia. The RC Church and conservative Pres. Calderon went ballistic over these laws and sought to have them overturned.
